FAQs

Frequently asked questions

1. Does PFC manufacture brake pads, calipers and discs for all applications? We offer a wide variety of hydraulic brake parts for light-, medium- and heavy-duty vehicles as well as race, off-road, and motorcycle applications. Commercial air disc brakes are also part of the PFC programme. Please click here for details of the vehicles that we cover. However, if your application is not shown, please do not hesitate to contact us.

2. Do I have to use PFC discs when using the pads? Our pad and disc combination provides optimal braking experience for our customers.  We recommend using the full PFC product line and it is in the customer’s best interest to use all PFC products.  This ensures an increase in overall savings for the customer and creates a safer environment with lean-green products.  However, PFC pads can be used with OE aftermarket discs, all while still ensuring PFC’s guarantees and warranties.

8. What is the difference between Carbon-Metallic and Z-Rated? Both are from the Carbon-Metallic family of brake compounds.  The Z-Rated has an additional cold bite for high performance, severe duty applications.  The difference between the two can be found in the matrix model used in creating the pad.  The compounds are slightly different allowing Z-Rated pads to be used for high performing severe duty applications. Typically the Carbon-Metallic is used for everyday driving.  Although we offer the Z-Rated Carbon-Metallic our standard Carbon-Metallic does in fact outperform our competitors’ top line products.

9. Are Z-Rated pads harder on discs? Our Z-Rated pads do not threaten the integrity of the disc.  The compounds used do not cause run-out and still offer a superior braking experience.

10. Please tell me more about PFC Brakes and Performance Friction. Can you explain what you do? We are a braking system manufacturer that started in the racing industry, ranging from open wheel to NASCAR and dirt track.  We have broadened our business model to include fleets such as police, light, medium & heavy duty applications. We offer superior products by engineering a carbon-metallic compound matrix which has proven to be Quieter, Quicker and Last Longer, all while being the most environmentally friendly brake pads. All parts are proudly made in the USA.

11. How can I determine which compound to use for the different types of racing I do? This information can be found by visiting our pad compound page.

12. Why are PFC pads more expensive than most other competitors? The price of our products are initially more expensive because we engineer our products with superior materials and processes when creating the pads.  However, all of our customers save money with the extended life and quality of our pads. The value they bring to each and every customer proves this.

13. What makes PFC pads better than the rest? PFC products are better than other pads because we use a Carbon-Metallic matrix in the mixture of our pads.  This improves thermal (heat) stability, increasing friction (force of resistance against a moving surface, which is the pad against the disc).  Because we use a Carbon-Metallic compound base, our pads do not contain NAO materials that closely resemble asbestos such as competitors’ ceramic brakes.  Most importantly, the compounds we use offer a longer-lasting material that outperforms the competitors by stopping more quickly and quietly.  Competitors cannot match our cost efficiency over any pad life that PFC offers.
